Find the column of the $7$

Reading columns from the right they are units, tens, hundreds, thousands. The $7$ sits in the hundreds column.

Multiply the digit by its place value

The value of a digit is the digit multiplied by its column value. Here that is $7$ hundreds.

State the value

So the $7$ stands for $700$.

Add the units

Line the numbers up by place value and start at the units. $7+5=12$, so write $2$ and carry $1$ into the tens.

Add the tens with the carry

Add the tens digits plus the carried $1$. Write $3$ and carry $1$ into the hundreds.

Add the hundreds

Add the hundreds plus the carry to get $6$. The answer is $632$.

Look at the units

Units: $2$ is smaller than $8$ so we must borrow, but the tens digit is $0$ so we borrow from the hundreds first.

Borrow across the zero

Take $1$ hundred: hundreds become $4$, tens become $10$; then move $1$ ten to the units so tens become $9$ and units become $12$.

Subtract each column

Now subtract column by column. The answer is $234$.

Multiply the units

Multiply $6$ by the units digit $7$ to get $42$. Write $2$ and carry $4$ into the tens.

Multiply the tens and add the carry

Multiply $6$ by the $4$ tens to get $24$, then add the carried $4$ to get $28$.

Write the result

Putting the digits together gives $282$.

Divide the tens

Using the bus-stop method, $4$ goes into $9$ twice with $1$ left over. Write $2$ above the $9$ and carry the $1$.

Divide the units

The leftover $1$ makes the $6$ into $16$. $4$ goes into $16$ exactly $4$ times.

State the answer

So $96$ divided by $4$ is $24$.
